Our Mandate



  • IHSP-SA is a not for profit voluntary independent professional body for housing and human settlements professionals in South Africa;
  • It is a the home for all housing and human settlements practitioners and professionals in the country;
  • Embed in systematic systems in the professionalization of the human settlements sector;
  • Promote higher standards of ethics, service and client care;
  • Voice for the membership in the sector;
  • Advocating the professional management of housing and human settlements development;
  • Promoting continuous professional development;
  • Foster close networking partnerships with national and international partners;
  • Paving a way towards the establishment of a Professional Council for Human Settlements Practitioners.
  • The Institute wings, are namely; Students Chapter, Young Professionals, Academics ,Practitioners Forum.

IHSP-SA Strategic Objectives

These Strategic Objectives are therefore the basis for tracking progress via the realisation of targets and milestones detailed in the following section of the Strategic Plan.

  • Define the structure of the organization and compliance requirements in a manner consistent with its founding mandate;
  • Establish a clear framework intended to position the organisation as a viable and self sustainable body;
  • Develop a sustainable framework for membership, benefits and services for membership;
  • Develop and implement programmes and offer products and services;
  • Position the organization as a body representative of the voice and interests of practitioners and professionals.
