IHSP-SA is a not for profit voluntary independent professional body for housing and human settlements professionals in South Africa;
It is a the home for all housing and human settlements practitioners and professionals in the country;
Embed in systematic systems in the professionalization of the human settlements sector;
Promote higher standards of ethics, service and client care;
Voice for the membership in the sector;
Advocating the professional management of housing and human settlements development;
Promoting continuous professional development;
Foster close networking partnerships with national and international partners;
Paving a way towards the establishment of a Professional Council for Human Settlements Practitioners.

These Strategic Objectives are therefore the basis for tracking progress via the realisation of targets and milestones detailed in the following section of the Strategic Plan.
Define the structure of the organization and compliance requirements in a manner consistent with its founding mandate;
Establish a clear framework intended to position the organisation as a viable and self sustainable body;
Develop a sustainable framework for membership, benefits and services for membership;
Develop and implement programmes and offer products and services;
Position the organization as a body representative of the voice and interests of practitioners and professionals.
